Definition

The first ox or bull which is given to a newly-married woman, usually by her husband. Once given this animal, the bride then begins to request more cattle from the husband and relatives. As she adds up her cattle, she makes marks, typically with cow dung, on a specific part of the animals to help her identify them in the evening (as they may have other permanent brands from the previous owner).
